If an item in the system hierarchy has been identified as a Maintenance Significant Item (MSI), or if it is eligible to be identified as an MSI, the F-F-E-C tab will be displayed in the Analysis panel.
For MSG-3 systems and powerplant analysis, the F-F-E-C tab will be displayed in the Analysis panel if the item selected in the system hierarchy has been identified as a Maintenance Significant Item (MSI), or if it is eligible to be identified as an MSI.

You will use this tab to perform the functional failure analysis (i.e., record the functions, failures, effects and causes that have been identified for the item), the failure effect categorization and the maintenance task selection.
You will use the F-F-E-C tab to record the functions, functional failures, effects and causes that have been identified for the item. This tab also provides access to the Failure Effect Categorization (FEC) window and the Maintenance Task Selection window, which present the logic diagrams from the MSG-3 guidelines and allow you to record the recommended maintenance tasks.

The Failure Effect Categorization (FEC) window ('''F-F-E-C''' > '''Effect''' > '''Categorization''') presents the logic diagram from the MSG-3 guidelines. The category selected (e.g., Evident Operational, Hidden Safety, etc.) will determine which of the maintenance task selection questions from the MSG-3 guidelines will be enabled in the Tasks Selection window ('''F-F-E-C''' > '''Cause''' > '''Tasks Selection'''). The software includes built-in logic checks to ensure that the maintenance tasks defined to address each potential failure mode are compliant with the analysis team's answers for the FEC and Maintenance Task Selection logic.

Functional Failure Analysis (F-F-E-C)

For MSG-3 systems and powerplant analysis, the F-F-E-C tab will be displayed in the Analysis panel if the item selected in the system hierarchy has been identified as a Maintenance Significant Item (MSI), or if it is eligible to be identified as an MSI.
